Final Furlong

In recent years, North Lancashire has been home to a number of stars from the world of sport.
From boxer Tyson Fury to darts player Dave Chisnall; it has not been uncommon to spot a sporting champion in the local supermarket or walking along Morecambe Promenade.
But to have such celebrities in our midst is not a new phenomenon.

When LuneTube heard about a superstar who came to live in Torrisholme in the 1920s, we thought we should investigate.
Back then, the ‘ancient parish’ as it was known, was still semi-rural. A cluster of cottages and small villas were bordered by farmland. The perfect village to retire to, if you wished to be surrounded by green fields.

This LuneTube assignment took us from Torrisholme to the Lune Valley, as we discovered a modern link to our story from the past.  When we started to research this film, we weren’t sure if it had legs. It could have fallen at the first hurdle, but it proved to be a real thoroughbred.
