Warton's Special Relationship

A mile from Carnforth, lies the village of Warton. Nestling at the foot of a limestone escarpment called Warton Crag; there has been a settlement here since pre-Roman times. Today, quaint cottages line the main street; which retains a feeling of antiquity, despite the many vehicles that trundle through.

As well as a village shop and community centre, Warton boasts two pubs. The Malt Shovel Inn on the southern approach and The George Washington, next-door to the village church.

St Oswald's dates from the 14th Century, with its tower added a hundred years later. By that time, a family from the North East of England had established themselves in the area and they contributed to the cost of building work.  As a result, their crest adorned the exterior of the tower and can still be viewed inside the church to this day.
Many villages have their unique traditions and Warton is no exception. Every 4th of July, a special ceremony takes place at St. Oswald's. A ceremony which acknowledges a special connection dating back over 500 years...
An historic village, an ancient crest, a notable family, a beautiful church, unique tradition... Naturally LuneTube had to go and investigate!
