Poulton Lost and Found

Return to the Village

At LuneTube, we love a good detective story.  This one involves a disappearing village, lost buildings and a vert illustrious family indeed.

At the heart of the seaside resort of Morecambe there are traces of the old village of Poulton-le-Sands.  Originally, just a handful of cottage, it grew and was eventually swallowed up when Morecambe became a holiday destination in the late 19th Century.

But there are still traces of Old Poulton, if you know where to look.  Remains of some of its lost buildings, which provide clues to the past.

Finding the right door...

This film takes us from the quaint backstreets of Poulton to the other side of the world.  It's all a case of finding the right door...

Sand grown 'un

Our guide to Poulton-le-Sands is "sand grown 'un" Peter Wade.  Peter is a recognised authority on the history of Morecambe and previously presented "Poulton - A Place of Pebbles" So this is a sort of sequel!

  1. Lived on Lord Street for over 20 years now and have noticed several changes over the years.
No market now , Nightingales butchers now a house , the bakery now back to a house , only one chipshop now.
I was born at the old Queen Victoria maternity unit and have now been in this area for over 60 years.
It would be nice if more history could be found about Poulton -le-Sands in the beginning.
